Thame Town Council Design, Illustration & Branding
Thame Town Council has been a client since 2014. Over the past decade, the work has covered a lot of ground: campaign materials, event branding, town guides, signage, calendars, reports, merchandise, and a series of 10 walking maps.
A lot of the work has an environmental thread running through it. The Big Green Calendar, produced last year, is a good example: practical, on-brand, and rooted in the council’s sustainability agenda and useful for the people of the town.
The walking maps started with data from mapping software, which I simplified, made more attractive and useful for someone walking with them. Some cover longer routes out into the surrounding countryside. Some are town walks. One is a hedgehog-themed game, which is exactly as good as it sounds.

The merchandise has been one of the more enjoyable briefs. The “I Love Thame” illustration is a detailed celebration of the town, not just wonky old buildings, but the buses with their route numbers, red kites, festival bunting, coffee shops, all the things that make the place feel like itself. That image now lives on mugs, notepads, tote bags, and bottles.
Beyond the council, I support some of the town’s festivals, awards, and organisations that fall within TTC’s oversight with maps, logos, and event materials.
The local government infographic has an unusual origin, it started as something I made for a friend standing for the local council, to help explain which tier of government is responsible for which services. Thame Town Council commissioned a more detailed version, and it’s since attracted interest from other councils.
Working with local councils suits me. Before going freelance I worked with councils at every level, including central government, so I understand how they operate, what they need to communicate, and the constraints they’re working within. And it’s extra special when it’s your home town of course!
